Capabilities
Multiscale Thermal Modeling on Heat Conduction:
Nanoscale -- first-principles phonon calculations using density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, and interface phonon transmission modeling using atomistic Green's function (AGF).
Mesoscale -- Monte Carlo (MC) simulations
Macroscale -- Finite element analysis (FEA) and analytical modeling
Thermal Conductivity Measurements:
Thin film measurements -- Custom-built laser-based pump-probe setups can measure both in-plane and cross-plane for films down to 10s of nanometers Bulk sample measurements -- Laser Flash and PPMS
Phonon Dynamics Measurements:
Inelastic X-ray scattering at Argonne and Brookhaven National Labs
